SUNSCREEN & SPF

Sunscreen is a topical skincare product that blocks damaging sun rays from hitting the skin. It typically comes in the form of a cream, lotion or spray. SPF stands for sun protection factor, which is a measurement of how long it takes for skin to redden when using a sunscreen compared to how long it takes without it. The American Academy of Dermatology Association (AAD), recommends choosing a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, is water resistant, and provides broad-spectrum coverage.

Broad-spectrum sunscreen protects skin against UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays cause long-term damage that may result in wrinkles and dark spots. UVB rays cause sunburn and are thought to cause most skin cancers.

Sunscreen is recommended to be worn every day, even on cool or overcast days. Why? Because when there are clouds in the sky, the light is less perceptible with the naked eye, but you’re still getting the UV rays on your skin!

Applying the right amount of sunscreen and reapplying is the key to appropriate coverage. Layering Hello Sunshine over IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream does not increase the duration of sun protection, so you still must reapply SPF every two hours. Also use additional sun protection measures such as wearing a wide-brimmed hat and seeking shade during peak sun hours.

Yes! The melanin in your skin helps protect against UVB rays (which causes sunburns), but protection is still needed from skin cancer and UVA rays, which cause premature skin aging.
