If you’ve got sensitive skin, you are probably all too familiar with the plight of finding the right products to help soothe, calm, and create a beautiful-looking complexion. After all, it can be a bit of a minefield out there when it comes to product formulations.
We totally get it. In fact, IT Cosmetics was founded specifically because of that very issue. Our founder, Jamie Kern Lima, was a TV host with rosacea who struggled to find products that lived up to her sensitive skin needs. After searching far and wide, she decided to make it happen herself and created a problem-solving fleet of products that she, and others like her, could use with confidence.
From gentle cleansers to nourishing serums to game-changing CC creams and beyond, IT Cosmetics is dedicated to creating skincare products for sensitive skin. We’re so excited to share some of our favorite sensitive skin products with you.
What Is Sensitive Skin and How Do You Know if You Have It?
Sensitive skin isn’t technically a medical diagnosis. Rather, it’s a symptom of a diagnosis and/or a general low tolerance to outside elements, including skincare products and makeup. It’s important to understand what’s causing your sensitive skin, and it’s always a good idea to seek the opinion of a medical professional.
Generally speaking, someone with sensitive skin will have more reactive skin compared to others. Some signs that you have sensitive skin may include a stinging or burning sensation after applying certain skincare products, often experiencing redness, or being more prone to irritation. People with sensitive skin may experience what’s called “contact dermatitis,” which is a temporary red and itchy rash caused by direct contact with a substance.
Build Your Sensitive Skincare Routine
People with sensitive skin should be extra cautious about the ingredients and formulas they use in order to help curb the look or feel of redness, itchiness, tenderness, or dry skin.
As far as over the counter products, dermatologists generally recommend simple, hydrating ingredients and cleansers.
Build your regimen using the following sensitive skin products:
Confidence in a Cleanser
Washing your face is an important first step of your skincare routine, but you want to avoid harsh soaps and products formulated with known irritants, such as dye, alcohol, or strong fragrances. Confidence in a Cleanser gently cleanses your skin while also moisturizing. It's soap-free, but still nixes all traces of makeup (including waterproof formulas). Plus, it's formulated with skin-loving ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal and ceramides.
Bye Bye Lines Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Keeping your skin hydrated is really important if you have sensitive skin. One of our favorite ingredients to boost hydration is hyaluronic acid, a humectant that draws moisture to the skin’s surface and creates a plump, moisturized appearance.
Try Bye Bye Lines Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which is formulated with 1.5% hyaluronic acid to deliver long-lasting hydration to your skin. It's also formulated with a blend of peptides and vitamin B5 to help support a more supple look and feel. You can apply this serum after cleansing and before using a cream or lotion.
Bye Bye Redness Sensitive Skin Moisturizer
Formulated with a host of calming ingredients—including aloe vera, cucumber, and colloidal oatmeal—Bye Bye Redness Sensitive Skin Moisturizer is a must-have for sensitive skin. It helps neutralize the appearance of facial redness and can deliver visibly transformative results over time.
Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Color-Correcting Cream
Here’s your sensitive skin secret weapon! Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Color-Correcting Cream sends redness packing with its soothing, camouflaging powers. This powerful moisturizing color corrector is a full-coverage foundation that instantly conceals hyperpigmentation on your face, including rosacea, broken capillaries, blemishes, irritation, sun damage, scars, and more.
CC+ Cream with SPF 50+
You can wear Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Color-Correcting Cream on its own, but for a one-two punch consider adding a layer of CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ on top. Not only will it help further cover redness, but it’s formulated with a mineral sunblock that helps protect your skin from UV damage.
You should wear SPF 30+ every day. If you have oily or blemish-prone skin, we recommend using CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte with SPF 40 instead of the original.
Some additional ways you can soothe sensitive skin include keeping a humidifier in the house, avoiding hot showers, and choosing soft, gentle fabrics like cotton and silk. You can also apply a cool compress to itchy or sensitive spots to get some relief and reduce inflammation. Ahh, we can feel the relief already!
