As they say, variety is the spice of life. And, infusing a little freshness into your regimen is a great way to dabble in new beauty trends, discover new makeup products, and inspire a little creativity.
Whether you’re aiming to dig yourself out of a makeup rut, trying to keep up with the times, or simply want to flex your creative muscles, we’re dishing some game-changing pro tips. Here’s to breathing some life into your current makeup routine and feeling extra fierce the next time you head out the door.
Try Skincare-Infused Makeup
Calling all minimalists! You can have your gorgeous makeup look and glowing, healthy skin, too. Skincare-infused makeup works overtime for your complexion by color-correcting and enhancing your natural features while simultaneously nourishing your skin. It’s a “less is more” approach that serves up a major payoff.
“Skincare-infused makeup is very much like a multivitamin for your skin—a true multitasking product, if you will,” says Kirsten Peterson, Senior Regional Education Manager for IT Cosmetics. “[These products] not only allow someone to achieve a desired look or finish and conceal imperfections, but it helps to [visibly] improve the skin over time.”
A perfect example of this multitasking makeup is the award-winning CC+ Cream with SPF 50+, a lightweight, hydrating foundation available in 12 shades.* It’s infused with an anti-aging serum to improve the appearance of your skin while creating a flawless-looking makeup base.
Another place to win big in the skincare-infused makeup department is when you apply concealer. Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer is a waterproof formulation that delivers highly pigmented, long-lasting coverage resistant to dreaded creasing and cracking. While concealing dark circles and other imperfections, it also nourishes skin via anti-aging peptides, vitamins, hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants.
Even setting spray, and setting powder can be infused with skin-loving ingredients. So go wild!
Perfect the Fluffy, Full Brow
Pencil-thin brows had their heyday back in the ‘30s and again in the ‘90s. But now, it’s all about healthy, fluffy, and full brows that perfectly frame your face. Even if you’ve got sparse brows, you can experiment with this trend in your daily makeup routine.
Peterson’s particularly fond of the “brushed up” brows look, and it’s one that anybody can pull off. She says, “Use Brow Power Filler Eyebrow Gel to brush the brows up and lock them into place.”
If you want to double down, Peterson explains you can even prep your brows beforehand by brushing a tiny amount of translucent setting powder directly onto the hairs. “This will allow you to build [the look of] more volume,” she says. She recommends Bye Bye Pores Poreless Finish Loose Setting Powder to get the job done. Just dip the spooley end of your Brow Power Micro Brow Pencil into the powder and apply.
Pro Tip: Did you know that when it comes to your step-by-step makeup routine order, you should save your brows for last? Yep, get your primer, foundation, concealer, and blush taken care of, then go after your brows.
Lean Into Splashy Colors
Neutrals will forever have their place in your makeup bag, but there’s nothing like a splash of color to make you feel alive. Think of it as the makeup routine equivalent of trying a new fashion style—especially if you’re the type to religiously reach for taupe.
From orange lipstick to purple liner, color is totally in right now. Peterson agrees, adding that because of wearing masks, “we’ve been playing with color on the eyes [lately], and it’s not slowing down. Colorful eyeshadows—like blues, purples, and golden shades—are it.”
If you’d rather dip your toe into the trend versus cannonball, start with subtly playful colors in the center of your lower lid. You could even try infusing color with an eyeliner. As you gain more confidence in your color-wielding prowess, you might even “apply the eyeshadow wet and build it out from the lash line and into the crease,” says Peterson.
Your Heavenly Luxe Tapered All-Over Shadow Brush #27 will help make the job easier. This tapered makeup brush allows for targeted application of your eyeshadow and enhances color payoff.
Whatever color technique you go with, make sure to apply an eye cream first as part of your pre-makeup skincare routine. In terms of makeup routine steps, we suggest starting with your eye makeup first, cleaning up any fallout, and then going in with primer, foundation, and concealer.
And of course, seal the deal with a few swipes of your favorite mascara. IT Cosmetics’ new Hello Lashes+, a lash-loving mascara with built-in lash care serum that adds major volume and definition. This smudge-proof tubing mascara is also infused with biotin and features a 360-degree lash wrapping brush for an eye-opening effect in one stroke.
Try Satin Lips
We’re guessing you’ve dabbled in the matte lip look and have worn your go-to glossy pout for a while now. But have you heard of “satin lips?” It’s a hybrid between the two, and it’s an easy way to enhance your lips while leaning into a current trend.
“As we spend time taking on and off a mask, this type of look is less likely to smear, and it allows the wearer to have color on, too,” says Peterson. “Je Ne Sais Quoi Hydrating Lip Balm are both fantastic products for this trend, as both have lip-loving, hydrating ingredients, and come in a variety of shades. Consider mixing shades to create your custom satin lip color!”
